China's Fumed Silica Supply Pattern: Global Capacity Layout and Industry Concentration Analysis
China dominates the global fumed silica market, accounting for over 60% of the world's total production capacity, and serves as the largest production and export base. The current domestic fumed silica industry has formed a stable supply structure including leading domestic enterprises, foreign joint ventures, and medium and small manufacturers, with continuously improving industry concentration and accelerated elimination of backward low-end capacity.

The first echelon consists of leading listed enterprises, such as Hesheng Silicon Industry, Dongyue Group, Bluestar New Materials, Huifu Nano, and Jibisheng. These enterprises own large-scale standardized production capacity, complete upstream and downstream industrial chains, and stable raw material self-supply capacity. Their product portfolio covers industrial grade, food grade, pharmaceutical grade, and electronic grade fumed silica, including high-end modified products for photovoltaic and lithium battery applications. They are the core suppliers for large domestic and overseas clients with stable output and consistent quality.
The second echelon is foreign joint ventures, represented by Wacker Dongyue and Cabot Bluestar. Relying on mature overseas technology and brand advantages, foreign manufacturers focus on high-purity premium fumed silica, targeting high-end markets of Europe and America including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and precision electronics. Their product pricing is higher than domestic products, occupying the core share of the global high-end market.
The third echelon includes domestic small and medium-sized factories, mainly producing general industrial-grade fumed silica for ordinary rubber, coatings, and adhesives, with low technical barriers and product added value. Affected by stricter environmental compliance, rising raw material costs, and market upgrading in recent years, numerous backward small capacities have withdrawn from the market, further concentrating industry resources on leading enterprises.

In terms of future supply trends, new capacity release in China remains prudent, and most newly launched capacity focuses on high-value premium products, leading to a continuous supply gap for low-end general-grade products. Combined with growing overseas substitution demand, China’s leading position in global fumed silica supply will be further consolidated, and the industry’s high prosperity will continue in the long term.
